What is cupping therapy?

Massage Cupping is used to restore the body's tissue to a healthy state under each underlying layer and increase circulation. The cups can be utilized in a variety of ways to create a lift known as "decompression". This is can be accomplished through range of motion of the body, active movement of the cups, and stationary cups on the body.

What are some benefits of cupping?

Cupping has a wide variety of benefits that increase the effeciency of the body. These include but are not limited to:

  • Lifting connective tissue.

  • Release rigid tissue such as adhesions and scar tissue.

  • Flushing capillary beds and draining excess fluids.

  • Deeply engage the parasympathetic nervous system.

  • Bring blood to stagnant skin and muscles.

  • Activate the secretion of synovial fluids to release stiff joints.

  • Increase space for muscles to move.

What are the cupping marks?

One of the most common things people think about when they hear cupping is the marks on the body. These "marks or discolorations" are often mistook for bruises. Cupping does not cause blunt force trauma or damage to your tissue. Rather we are showing what was already hiding below.

Sometimes a lack of circulation or old internal trauma can create a build-up of stagnant blood, toxins, and sticky fluids in the area. Cupping is great at showing off these areas because we lift it to the surface. The darker the mark, the longer and more fluids we have stored in the area making it a great diagnostic tool. The lift in the cups creates space pulling this stagnation away from the injury site allowing healthy circulation to be restored to the affected area.

Why incorporate facial cupping?

Just like the rest of the body, the face is layered with: muscles, fascia and lymphatic ducts. Cupping this area will help drain out excess fluid build up. When people get headaches one of the possible reasons is the fascia around the head can become tight and created unwanted pressure. Cupping will help release this and relax you as well. Finally pairing facial cupping with intraoral work allows us to achieve the maximum results for relieving muscular discomfort in the jaw.
