The Adrenal Glands are some of the most important organs in the body. They help produce hormones that regulate the metabolism, blood pressure, immune system, and regulate the body's sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system also known as the response to stress on the body, and other functions.
What can cause issues in the Adrenals?
The adrenals help regulate stress and any unwanted or unnecessary stress on the body will take a toll on the adrenal glands. This can include things like:
Coffee and caffine
Fear and anxiety
Pyschological, emotional, and/or physical stress
Smoking
Allergies and infections
Poor sleep
Negative attitudes and beliefs
Financial Pressure
Any kind of life events that are stressful
What are some signs and symptoms of Adrenal Gland issues:
Extreme fatigue.
Weight loss and decreased appetite.
Darkening of your skin (hyperpigmentation)
Low blood pressure, even fainting.
Salt craving due to decreased sodium levels
Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia)
Nausea, diarrhea or vomiting (gastrointestinal symptoms)
Abdominal pain.
What can P-DTR do for the Adrenals?
Proprioceptive-Deep Tendon Reflex is a fantastic tool to help the adrenal system. The nervous system controls the adrenals and if you can help reduce the triggers that cause a sympathetic mode to be triggered this can help keep the adrenal glands healthy. Using P-DTR we can remove triggers related to things like old injuries, emotional stressers, trauma, pain and more.
By clearing out these nervous system dysfunctions we can work to keep you in a parasympathetic mode more frequently and for longer. This helps to ensure that not only does the adrenal glands feel better but you're able to be in a better state for mental and physical recovery.
Addison's Disease vs Cushing's Disease
Addison's disease is a diagnosis when there is inadequate secretion of the hormone cortisol by the adrenals. This is characterized by anemia, low blood pressure, weakness, and bronze discoloratrion of the skin.
Cushing's Syndrome happens when a person's body is exposed to too much of the hormone cortisol. In this syndrome, a person's body makes or has more cortisol than it needs.
What Can Massage Therapy do for the Adrenals?
Massage Therapy can be a great way to help relax muscles calm the body. After only 20 minutes of soft tissue manipulation the average client will relax and switch to a parasympathetic state to help them relax if they are stressed or in a sympathetic mode.
Can P-DTR alone fix Adrenal Failure?
When it comes to Adrenal Failure you will need a team working with you. This can often involve life changes, supplements, diet changes and more. P-DTR is a fantastic tool to help this process though and if you're suffering from this problem I would highly recommend incorporating it.
